Recently retired Professional Left Handed pitcher. Retired spring 2013 from AAA spring training with the San Diego Padres. Played 6 full professional seasons from 2007-2012. I create a fun and active learning environment within the instruction. I focus on proper mechanics, sound delivery to avoid injury, adding velocity, stemming new pitches, and emphasize a consistent repeatable delivery. As a switch hitter through high school and some of Division I college, I focus on similar aspects, as well as apply the nuances of the professional hitters I faced throughout my career. It is coming up on a full year that I began meeting with Dustin. Before meeting with him, i was more a “thrower” than a “pitcher.” I could get outs because my fastball tailed and I was a lefty, and kids struggled to hit me because of that. I had control problems so I wasnt very effective. After meeting with Dustin, I began to follow his program and very quickly became much better. Now, I’m a pitcher. I’m very confident every time I take the mound. This year, as a junior pitcher in high school, my ERA was 0.91, and last year it was above 4. Not only does Dustin make you a better pitcher, he helps strengthen your baseball IQ. I am excited to see the progress I can make this fall and winter.
My son has been working with Dustin for several years, starting with pitching lessons then moving to both pitching and hitting lessons. Prior to working with Dustin, my son would often have his natural style tweaked or would have to conform to whatever style or motion suited the masses.
Dustin has worked with my son on proper pitching mechanics, hitting stance and fundamentals of the game. My son has learned tips from Dustin that allow him to hit for power. In addition to being taught proper arm care, Dustin has worked with my son to develop several pitches unique to my son’s own style, and deceptive to the opponent!
As a parent, what I like most about working with Dustin is he is always professional, organized and flexible with times and locations for lessons.
If you are tired of the “lessons in a box” approach and are looking for an instructor who will work with your child to refine their unique skill set and style, I would highly recommend Dustin as an instructor.
Dustin starting working with my son Trent(age 14) this past January(2013) during some off time he had while he was still playing ball. Trent had always played recreational ball. We have struggled as parents trying to help teach him since he was a lefty and we are righty’s. Over the many years of playing ball, Trent has had many team coaches whom which many were dads with kids on the team. If we wouldn’t have met Dustin when we did Fall 2012 would have been Trent’s last season. He was ready to quit. He was tired of sitting the benches when he never rarely ever missed a practice and gave 110% at practice and during games.
Trent was a mess when he first started working with Dustin. Dustin starting off working on Trent’s motion when pitching and getting consistency. In only a year’s time while working with Dustin, Trent got a lot of time on the pitchers mound in Fall Ball this year. He even became a regular closer for his team.
Dustin has worked on Trent’s motion, pitch types, speed, pick-off moves how to mentally handle the game and even batting but the most important thing Dustin has taught him is to never give up. Dustin has given Trent the confidence he lost and the courage to chase his dreams. He instills motivation and a little tough love when needed to get Trent(who’s is still a teenage boy) back into the groove.
Trent is a freshman in high school this year and will be trying out in a few months for the high school team. He is ecstatic and ready for the challenge.
Thanks Dustin for all you do. You are an amazing coach both on the field and off the field.
My son has been working with Dustin in group sessions and recently in one on one sessions. The improvements in my son’s pitching mechanics were immediately evident. Dustin has a great demeanor and rapport in his teaching style. My son really enjoys working with him and I am looking forward to his support in the continued growth and development of my son.
Dustin has worked with our son for over a year and we could not be more satisfied with the results. At our first session, Dustin took the time to watch Cole throw and evaluate his motion. He diagnosed flaws in his motion that would have ultimately resulted in damage to his arm. From there he corrected poor form and he worked on proper mechanics to protect him and prevent injury. We were most impressed he made this the priority.
In addition, he is extremely professional. He has never been unprepared or confused about where he was in the process with Cole. At each session, Dustin knew exactly where he left off. Once the motion was correct, he worked on fine-tuning it. He is methodical and a stickler for details and repetition. I truly believe he wants the best for our son and is fully committed to helping him succeed.
Dustin is a first-rate instructor and highly recommended. My 10 year old son Matt has been doing pitching and hitting lessons and the results have exceeded expectations.Matt has gone from intramural level to full-time travel player. Each session is always a positive experience.
Highly recommended! Dustin is a superb pitching coach. His approach on pitching mechanics and repeatable delivery to avoid injury is outstanding. His encouragement and honest critique provide a strong student/teacher bond. Thanks Dustin!!
Dustin is an outstanding instructor. His approach to teaching is highly effective in translating content to his players. In addition to teaching the proper form, technique, and fundamentals of the game, he emphasizes the importance on the mental aspects of the game. He works extremely well with young players, as well as, in a group setting. The impact of his teaching style is seen immediately. We are looking forward to seeing the impact of his instruction come game time in the spring. I highly recommend Dustin to anyone seeking to improve their child’s or program’s skill-set.
My son, a high school freshman has played competitive baseball for five years. He immediately recognized that Dustin’s training approach is different from most. Dustin focuses on the individual not a pre-canned program. He quickly evaluates batting and pitching mechanical fundamentals and adjusts his training to help improve performance. I immediately noticed increased velocity and better accuracy with my sons pitching and harder more controlled bat swings. I am very pleased with Dustin’s training. I am looking forward to him coaching my son as he progresses through high school.
Dustin’s impact on our team’s pitchers and their in-game performance was
immediate and significant. After just two lessons, we have seen
improvements in both accuracy and velocity. He works extremely well with
our young players and is able to communicate with them at a level they
understand. Dustin has worked with our players individually and provided
drills specifically designed to correct/improve that pitcher’s unique
mechanical issues. Bringing Dustin into our player development plans was
the best thing we could have done for our team, but more importantly for
our young pitchers as they will now build off a foundation of sound
mechanics that will greatly reduce their risk of injury both now and into
the future. It has been rewarding to see our boys enjoy more success on
the mound and to see them motivated to continue getting better by working
on the drills Dustin has assigned to them as “homework”.
Dustin is an excellent instructor. He certainly possesses the credentials, but he also possesses a skillful ability to translate learning to younger players (my son just turned 9). His ability to translate and demonstrate proper techniques in order for kids understand is superb. He works excellent individually, or in groups (as he works with our Club Team). Additionally, Dustin touches on the mental elements of the game to enhance confidence. Most importantly, our kids “enjoy” working with Dustin and you can see “step by step” improvement as they progress weekly. We anticipate great results come Spring. I recommend Dustin to anyone looking to get their child additional instruction.

General Manager- Catoctin Baseball Club
Dustin has helped my son significantly. He immediately picked up on things that needed to be tweaked and knew the right training methods to make the adjustments easy. Very knowledgeable and able to communicate that knowledge very well.
Dustin has given my son more than just mechanics and tips; he also gave him insight into the mental aspects of the position which i believe is as important as the physical training. He’s also a real nice guy. Thomas loved working with him and was just what he needed at this stage. My recommendation is for Dustin is high.
I have coached youth travel baseball now for the last 10 years in the Montgomery County Baseball Association for Olney Boys and Girls Athletic Association (OBGC). I met Dustin at the recommendation of my oldest son’s High School Coach and have just embraced his style and ability to work with players to improve their pitching and baseball skills. Dustin was able to help my son with his mechanics but also his mental approach to the game and he went on to have an Amazing year the first season after workgin with Dustin and he is now pitchign for his college team as well.
I have also used Dustin to work with the teams that I coach for my younger sons and almost ever player has improved their pitchign and mental skills by working with Dustin. The feedback form the players is amazing, he is still a young enough guy that he gets high street credability with the players and can really communicate with them on their level.
I have to say that one of the major things I like about Dustin is that he does not try to re-create a players pitching style; some coaches try to do that. He works with their current style and suggests options to improve their mechanics within that style so the player may optimize his pitching ability. My teams have all improved because our pitching has improved dramatically, thaks to Dustin for his hard work and ability to work with the younger player.
Coach Paholski
My son Jake and I first came to meet Dustin in early winter of 2011. We had been working with a few other pitching coaches, but none really seemed dedicated to wanting to see Jake succeed. As a lefty, Jake really needed a lefty Coach for his true pitching perspective. We were introduced to Dustin through our batting club. The manager there told us he had a young up and coming “kid” who was a lefty pitcher in the minors and would work hard with Jake and teach him a thing or two. “Why not” I thought.
Dustin worked tirelessly with Jake weekly, and often twice a week. I watched in amazement how my son’s demeanor, form and delivery took shape and became so routine and so mundanely repetitive . . . . as did his pitches. Jake commanded his pitches throwing solid 4 and 2 seam fastballs, changeup, cutter and a “slurve.” Jake took to Dustin like a big brother and looked forward to his next lesson from the minute we had finished the last one. Dustin had found a place in Jake’s heart and had earned Jake’s admiration.
From the fall of 2011 and through the Spring of 2013 Dustin worked with Jake and has him now throwing fastballs with surgical accuracy cutting the inside and outside edges of the plate at 12 to 14 inches high. His changeup looks like a fastball coming out of his hand and dies just over the plate. His cutter spins across the plate dipping like a sinker. Not unlike Dustin’s own, Jake’s pitches weren’t remarkably fast, but they MOVED! Dustin would frequently remind Jake . . “Anybody can learn to hit a fastball . . . . but few people can master hitting a moving ball, especially when they look like strikes.”
Dustin and Jake became quite the team. Dustin was very proud of Jake, and Jake very proud to be a student of Dustin’s, and especially, his friend. Besides teaching Jake the many fundamentals of pitching, the grips, the arm motions, steps, etc., he also taught Jake WHEN to throw WHAT pitch. He gave Jake the ammunition for his games and taught him the tactics of when to fire it. Dustin’s prepared Jake for what will now be in 2014 his first high school baseball season.
I can’t imagine a more thoughful, personal, knowledgeable or inspiring man to coach a “son” in the art and mastery of pitching. Whether right handed or left handed, Dustin finds the person within the glove to shape, mold, refine and develop into an individual and unique baseball pitcher with poise, control and character and a desire and passion to work hard and succeed. I couldn’t recommend anyone more to provide not only baseball instructions but to also be a life mentor to a young man.
Dustin has worked with Bryan for several years. He is an excellent instructor and he relates very well with his students.
Dustin works on pitching mechanics and also on the mental approach to pitching. Working on the strategy behind what pitch to throw and to what location given a situation. That knowledge has helped his students do well on the mound.
Over the years I have worked with quite a few professional coaches. Dustin is up there with the best.
Dustin has helped me a lot not only with pitching but the finer points. We have worked on perfecting my mechanics down to every movement I make and have seen improvement on my movement of pitches and velocity of my fastball. I have also worked on things from pitch selection to pick-off’s with him and have seen a tremendous improvement in both. Working with Dustin for the past 2 years has been a great way for me to keep up with my pitching in and out of season and a way to help prepare myself for the seasons to come.
Highly recommend
Dustin is an awesome teacher. Worked with my son who was 11 last season. We started about halfway through the season and it definitely turned his season around.
He is very positive, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. Works very well with kids of all ages. Watched him throw quite a it before made any changes, and made changes incrementally.
Highly recommended.
